Designing a real-time local trip experience

This is an 11-week class project from an MHCI+D course at the University of Washington. I worked as a researcher and designer in designing a product (UX) experience.

The purpose of this project is to design an end-to-end experience within the context of a real or fictitious organization, combining features of customer experience (CX) and information experience (IX).

Duration: Mar - June, 2019 (12 weeks)
Role: UX designer; Video director and editor
Team: 2 Researchers; 2 Designers
Skills: Affinity diagram; Customer journey map; Prototyping & testing; Video edit

Here’s a sneak peek video — not a spoiler alert: I directed and edited the video; the professor said it’s of commercial quality and it’s the best video ever presented in the course!

Lessons Learned

  • Motivation matters, and that applies to users as well as product/service providers. Often times throughout the project, we think of things that are highly desirable but not feasible from a business perspective.

  • Trust your intuition more. We discussed adopting AR in the very first meeting but didn’t believe we could prototype it fast enough. And later we realized that AR technology and “on-the-go” experience really go together, and the way we video prototyped it still enables people to appreciate this experience
